Faceted Pearl
Mohs Scale 2.5 to 4.5
Unlike smooth pearls, these cut pearls have fascinating layers of brilliance and sparkle revealed. Only pearls with a very thick nacre can be faceted without breaking. This means cultured pearls, typically freshwater, and can include Tahitian and South Sea pearls. The technique was pioneered by Komatsu Cutting Factory in Japan in the late 1990s.
Used for enhancing inner-wisdom, while strengthening personal integrity and purity. Faceting pearls is a unique blend of traditional 'pearl wisdom' with enhanced focused energy, similar to cut crystal.
Though not used industrially, faceting pearls can allow slightly flawed high-nacre pearls to transform into something desirable.
Use & Care
Use: Last On, First Off: Apply all lotions, perfumes, and hair/body sprays before putting on jewelry to prevent chemical buildup that can dull and damage the surface. Activity Check: Remove jewelry before swimming (chlorine), showering (soap residue and chemical exposures), or high impact activities like exercise or gardening to avoid damage. Chemical Exposure: Avoid household cleaners, alcohol-based sanitizers, and vinegar, which can alter appearances permanently.
Cleaning: Method: Use lukewarm water and soft cloth. Action: Gently rub with a soft cloth. Drying: Crucial. Immediately pat dry with a soft lint-free cloth. Do not air-dry, as residual moisture can damage porous stones over time. Avoid: Never use ultrasonic or steam cleaners, which can cause damage.
Storage: Key: Wear them. Oils from your skin replenish natural oils in pearls, and storing for long periods can cause disintegration. Individual Separation: Store each piece in its own soft pouch or a lined compartment to prevent stones and metals of varying hardness scratching each other. Environment: Keep in a cool place away from direct sunlight. Moisture Control: Pearls need to “breath” and can dehydrate if stored in too dry of environments.
Longevity: While they last generations with care, they are generally not suitable for everyday, high-impact tasks (like cleaning or the gym).
