Artificial Sinew

About

Mohs Scale

A highly durable, waxed, flat, and ribbon-like thread generally 1/16-1/8 inch wide, which can be stranded or bundled. Artificial sinew is a synthetic, versatile alternative to genuine animal sinew. It is primarily composed of synthetic fibers like polyester or polypropylene, designed for high tensile strength, sewing, and binding applications. It has a waxy finish. 50 lb to 75 lb tensile strength. Rot-proof, waterproof, and UV-resistant.

Though it is a synthetic material, artificial sinew is often used in spiritual or ceremonial creations, because it is an alternative to the use of animal products.

Artificial sinew is most commonly used for leather work, beading, jewelry making, dream catchers, medicine pouches, fletching arrows, basket weaving, pine needle rims, Shibori (tie-dye) pole wrapping, upholstery repair and emergency repairs.

Use & Care

Use:

Cleaning: Items made with artificial sinew can usually be hand-washed, as the wax makes the thread resistant to moisture.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry place to prevent the wax from melting or becoming brittle.

Longevity: If the wax wears off, a small amount of beeswax can be reapplied to restore its grip. Unlike natural materials that can rot or be eaten by bugs, or rubber bands that become brittle, high-quality synthetic sinew lasts a very long time, maintaining its strength for years.
