Sterling Silver

About

Mohs Scale

.925 sterling silver is a durable, high-quality alloy consisting of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper. This offers a brilliant white metal luster, while gaining hardness. Pure silver is too soft to maintain form easily without copper.
In folklore silver is associated with warding off evil and supernatural creatures.
In many cultures it's historically used as a token of good luck, prosperity, healing, or protection.

Known as an amplifier of energy, silver is believed to enhance the properties of other gemstones. Historically regarded as a shield against negativity, silver is considered a “cool” energy for soothing anxiety. Enhances communication.

Used in a variety of applications such as: professional musical instruments, electronic components, medical and scientific equipment, decorative and functional lifestyle goods, and antimicrobial items. While silver is used in industrial applications, sterling silver is generally reserved for jewelry and luxury items.

Use & Care

Use: Wear often to avoid tarnish. Avoid moisture, and dry thoroughly when wet. Avoid chemicals like chlorine, body and hair care products, and fragrances. Last On, First Off: Apply all lotions, perfumes, and hair/body sprays before putting on jewelry to prevent chemical buildup that can dull and damage the surface. Activity Check: Remove jewelry before swimming (chlorine), showering (soap residue and chemical exposures), or high impact activities like exercise or gardening to avoid damage. Chemical Exposure: Avoid household cleaners, alcohol-based sanitizers, and vinegar, which can alter appearances permanently.

Cleaning: Aluminum Foil Method (for tarnish): Line a glass dish with aluminum foil (shiny side up). Add 1 Tbsp of baking soda and 1 tsp of salt per cup of boiling water. Lay sterling on top of aluminum foil. Soak for 2-5 minutes, allowing the tarnish to transfer to the foil. Rinse and dry thoroughly.

Mild Soap Method (routine care): Mix a small container of warm water with a few little drops of mild liquid soap. Soak 2-5 minutes. Scrub gently with an old toothbrush or similar. Rinse and dry thoroughly.

Baking Soda Method (stubborn spots): Make a paste of water and baking soda. Use a soft cloth to gently rub the piece. Rinse and dry thoroughly.

Vinegar Method (heavy tarnish): Mix 2Tbsp baking soda into ½ cup vinegar in oversized bowl. Soak jewelry 2-3 hours. Rinse and dry thoroughly.

Storage: Store in a cool dry place. We recommend a small container with silica packets included to control moisture and prevent tarnish.

Longevity: The more sterling silver is used, the better it looks. Moisture and tarnish should both be avoided, as both can decay the silver with prolonged or excessive exposures.
