Glass

About

Mohs Scale 5.5 to 6.5

A versatile and functional material utilized since ancient times. Blown glass is generally formed by forming molten soda-lime (common), borosilicate (high thermal resistance) or lead-glass (high refraction) by air/blowpipe. Characterized by artistic and one-of-a-kind properties like tiny bubbles, inclusions and pontil. Varying transparency, chemical stability and hardness. While scratch resistant, it is brittle.

Often associated with transformative powers, thought to capture light and shift energies, including through Feng Shui teachings. Believed to ward off evil, while bringing peace and joy. Embodying the power of fire and air, glass symbolizes creativity and resilience. Used for meditation and mindfulness focus.

A timeless material, glass continues to be an essential material for flasks, tests tubes, specialized instruments, electronics casings, and optical fibers. Glass has been used since ancient times for bottles, vessels and containers. It is also a popular material for lighting and lampshades, as well as sculpture, vases and ornaments.
